Civic-ceremonial center built by the Matlatzincas.
The site has a clear Tehotihuacan influence, on the Tetéptl hill plateau where artificial fillings and terraces were built to accommodate several groups of buildings organized around squares.
Must see Buildings
There is a large metrópolis with pyramidal bases, plazas, temples and buildings surrounded by a wall.
The site is made up of 5 groups of constructions that have been called A, B, C, D and E and more than 40 structures have been excavated and restored. Complex D is known as the Plaza de la Serpiente with its respective Temple.
The most notorious structures are: the Jaguar Square, the Ball Game and the Snake Temple.
Teotenango
"Román Piña Chan" Museum
On the slopes of the hill is the "Román Piña Chan" Museum with a display of objects found in the site, as well as other cultures that inhabited the territory of the State of Mexico.
Location
It is located on the Teotenango hill, 25 km west of the town of Tenango de Arista, approximately half an hour from Toluca.
Hours
Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00 hrs. Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00 hrs.
