Cultural Heritage registered in 1996 on the World Heritage List by UNESCO.
Its name means “The place of the ants”.
It is an architectural complex that rises majestically over the hills of the area surrounded by lush vegetation.
Sayil was founded at the end of the Late Classic and early Terminal Classic (800-950 A.D), and along with Uxmal and Kabah, is one of the major cities of Ruta Puuc. In its heyday, around 900 A.D, the city had a population of over 10,000 and extended to an area of three square miles.

Gran Palacio (Great Palace)
The city is made up of important groups of masonry structures linked by stone paths.
One of the most important buildings is "The Palace", a majestic building that in its period of splendor had 90 bedrooms, although its use was not only residential, but also administrative functions were concentrated there. From the top of the Palace you can see the church of Santa Elena and another small ruin next to the mound called "The Nine Masks."

Sayil also has other important architectural complexes such as: the Ball Game, the South Palace, the Mirador Complex, stepped temple with magnificent bas-reliefs that can now be seen in a palapa next to the entrance booth.

It is located within the Puuc region, Yuc, 33 km. southeast of Uxmal and 114 km (hour and a half) from Mérida. a 114 km, aproximadamente a una hora y media al sur de Mérida.
