The site is located within the El Consuelo ranch.

In its heyday Tamohí was inhabited by the Huastecos or tenek who left important vestiges of their culture.

This group developed a beautiful pottery, and was very skilled in the manufacture of jewelry, ornaments and in their constructions.

Huastecos are placed within the late Postclassic period from 1100 to 1300 A.D, and their culture is considered to be one of the least studied in Mesoamerica.

Must see Buildings

The first structure in the site is a large platform (126 m long - 80 wide), with wide staircases (12 m long).

There is a well preserved plaza surrounded by some buildings, including a quadrangular basement considered the main altar. This construction is unique for its shape and design, and it was possibly used for ceremonies related with Quetzalcoatl.
