It was one of the most important settlements of the kingdom of Acolhuacan.
Meaning “Place of the Willows,” this territory was occupied by a Chichimec group coming from the Valley of Mexico.
Must see Buildings
The site comprises a urban center surrounded by suburbs and scattered villages, and it was protected by a wall on the west side. Today there are isolated groups or structures, such as "La Muralla" (The Wall), it was 650 meters (2,130 feet) long and 6 meters (21 feet) wide but there are just some remains of the original; "La Estancia" (The Hacienda), just two tiers with a staircase with some of the red original paint; and "La Comunidad" (The Community), a staired structure that is superimposed on a previous building, the floor has traces of red paint.
In the surrounding area are: "The Santa Maria Group", consists of two structures; "San Marcos", locally is known as the observatory, but scholars don’t know the original function; "Santiago", a ceremonial platform; and "The Temple of Ehécatl - Quetzalcóatl", was built on a circular platform that is 19 meters (62 feet) in diameter.
