The site has a strategic location.
This site is s located in the town of Zitácuaro, east of the state of Michoacán, very close to the town of San Felipe of Alzati, in the southern slopes, near the base, of Cerro Zirahuato.
It was an important control point for protection of the Purepecha territory since it was at the border with the Mexica empire.
The site dates from 1200 to 1500 A.C. The Main Group was traced according to the cardinal points. Throughout the site you can see petroglyphs with the figure of a spiral, a sign that can also be seen on the faces of the main pyramid, scholars think it symbolizes the observation of solar movement.
Must see Buildings
The 40 meter high Pyramid is the tallest structure in Michoacán. The Minor Pyramid has a staircase that allows access from the square.
