La Mesa has a privileged view of the Tehuacán Valley.
This site is located on the plateau known as La Mesa, on the slopes of Cerro Colorado.
Must see Buildings
The most important structure is the temple dedicated to the god of the underworld called Mictlantecuhtli.
There were found niches with human skulls in its lateral walls. There is no other temple in the area with these characteristics.
Tehuacán el Viejo Site Museum
The museum is housed in a modern building and display more than 80 archaeological pieces. There are “xanthiles” a figure exclusive of this region, and representations of different gods like Xipe, Tótec, Xochipilli, Xochiquétzal and of course Quetzalcoátl.
“La Mesa” o Tehuacán El Viejo
Location
It is located in the municipality of Tehuacán, Puebla on the Federal Highway that goes to Oaxaca, you reach the town of San Diego Chalma and continue to the San Isidro neighborhood and a little further is the archaeological site.
