Its name means "Alambique or still mounds."
It was a Zapotec settlement and was occupied from 600 B.C. to 800 A.D.
It had its heyday between 700 and 750 A.D, at the beginning of the decline of Monte Alban.
Lambityeco was an important Zapotec commercial center, the main activity was the salt production and provided up to 90% of the salt consumed in the valley between AD 600 and 700. C. The salt was extracted from the land called "tequezquite", located in the southern part of the site.
Must see Buildings
The site only has some buildings located at the edge of the road, representing only a small part of this great settlement that covered approximately 63.75 hectares.
It is notable for the extraordinary artistic quality of the urns, engravings and mural paintings located in some tombs.
Some of the remains are: The Palacio de los Caciques (The Rulers Palace), located inside the pyramid known as M-195, has two courtyards surrounded by four rooms. In one of these courtyards there is an altar in the center where there are two friezes on the side walls representing their leaders.
