The caves were discovered in 1959 by a tour guide who, while exploring the cave, discovered a passage that led to its depths and the treasures that the Maya had placed there over 800 years ago.
This cavern features unique natural beauty due to its formations and its significance as a Maya ceremonial center.
These caves have a length of about 2 km, and visitors descend 10 meters to witness the underground wonders.
The first thing you see at the beginning of the tour is the Throne of Balam, where it is believed that rituals in honor of this character were performed. Along the way, you can see other pre-Hispanic objects such as plates, incense burners, ceramic fragments, and figures of the Chaac God. Pay attention to the walls, as there are several handprints in the form of cave paintings.
One of the most surprising things in the cave is a large pillar formed by the fusion of a stalactite and a stalagmite, known as the Sacred Ceiba, located approximately 200 meters from the cave entrance. This was also a place of worship and is surrounded by offerings.
At the end of the tour, you can visit a beautiful botanical garden and a small museum with an exhibition of photographs taken during the exploration of the caves.
There is a light and sound show that recounts passages from its ancient past.
This place has a restaurant and parking facilities.
