It is one of the best examples of Pucc architecture in the state.
Its name means “fertile soil exposed to the sun”. The site was established in a valley within the Puuc region during the Late Preclassic period, had little presence in the Early Classic, and peaked in the Late Classic.
Hieroglyphic inscriptions found at the site date from 731 to 771 AD.
It is considered the regional capital of at least 25 sites that are located around it.
