This archaeological site is located on the hill of the same name, which in Nahuatl means "the abode of the gods".
It was an important ceremonial center of the Caxcanes, and to the north, the entire Tlaltenango valley, was a residential area.
This site is considered to be one of the few sites on the continent with an uninterrupted occupation from 200 BC. C. until 1531 d. C., when the Spanish arrived. This range of occupation is only similar to places like Cholula Puebla.
It is also the oldest in the state, since it was occupied for at least six centuries before other ceremonial centers such as La Quemada and Altavista.
