This ancient Mayan city had its peak between the years 750 and 900 A.D.
Followed by its gradual decline towards the early Postclassic period, between 1000 and 1250 A.D.
Must see Buildings
The main buildings are integrated into architectural groups.
In Group 1 there are vestiges of Structure 1 or Palace - Temple, one of the most important buildings with 10 rooms distributed on two levels; the main façade is one of the grandest versions of integral zoomorphic fronts and there are still some traces of the intense red painting that was covering the building.
In Group 2, there are various monumental constructions distributed around plazas.
The monumental architecture indicates that it was an important settlement, beside there have been found some sculptures and hieroglyphic inscriptions related with the imporant role of the site in the region.

Location
It is located 7 km northwest of Dzibalchén. To the south of Hopelchén you take the road to Dzibalchén and at km 34 there is a deviation where you have to follow a gap until you reach the site.
