Its name means “old walls”.
The people on this site was dedicated mainly to agriculture and developed an important hydraulic works such as the chultunes and the aguadas, artificial water collection systems.
It was one of the most densely populated areas in pre-Hispanic times. Like other sites in the Puuc region, it had its heyday during the Late Classic-Terminal period in the years 800 to 1000 A.D.
Must see Buildings
The site has three restored pyramids, and the main feature is the "Palace", with a magnificent highly decorated facade of nine rooms where you can see a stone mosaic board with fretwork and other geometric elements. There are spectacular masks of Chaac in its corners and in the center.
In the area you can find masks of the God Chaac and stones carved in the ground.
