It is the most important Mayan site in Cozumel.

It was a sacred Mayan center, as well as a strategic site for trade and political organization in the area. It's thought to have been the location of the sanctuary of Ixchel, goddess of fertility, an important pilgrimage site for the Maya.

It was founded in the year 300 and remained occupied until 1450 A.D. Its heyday was in the Early Classic (1200-1450).

Must see Buildings

San Gervasio has a number of groups of buildings linked by a network of sacbes. The largest structure is Ka'na Nah ("High House"), it is believed that this building was part of a temple devoted to the goddess Ixchel.

Upon their arrival on the island, the Spaniards decided to celebrate the first mass in Mexican territory, precisely in this place.
