It is located in the northwest of Hidalgo in the municipality of Tecozautla, in the highest part of the plateau.
The site corresponds to the Xajay culture and shows a complex political, religious and economic organization.
It is estimated that its foundation was at a time when Teotihuacán was the largest city in Mesoamerica, but this Otomi city remained 400 years longer as the political and social center of the Hñahñú culture. The site was occupied from 450 A.D. to 950 A.D.
Must see Buildings
The main structure dates from 650 AD, with dimensions of 17 m per side and with a height calculated of 10 m. There is another pyramid built two centuries before, with features a clea influence of the Bajío culture, and an offering that seems to be from the year 450 A.D. with small sculptures of gods like Xiuhtecuhti (God of fire).
One of the peculiarities of this site is the originality of its architecture that differs from the style imposed by Teotihuacán.
