Several inscriptions found in Pomona, as it is known today, tell the relations with other important Mayan fiefdoms of the period, such as Palenque.

Must see Buildings

Pomona is a dispersed settlement occupies a 470-acre strip of a fertile, hilly region in the left bank of the Usumacinta River. The six important architectural complexes were built above the flood level and there are residential areas along the slopes of the hill.

Only one of the six architectural groups have been explore, the one located in the north end of Group I. There is a rectangular-based plaza surrounded by 13 buildings. In the center of the plaza is a low altar and the most notorious structure is the Temple IV with beautifully carved panels representing the god Kin, the sun.

Other relevant finding was the "tombstone of the scribe," a stela and a bust representing two unidentified dignitaries, a mask of the sun-jaguar god of the underworld, the carved tablets of Building 4, the figure of an old man with a beard and hat and other objects such as the curious flint knives.
