Due to being part of the most important delta system in Mesoamerica, the Pantanos de Centla area is particularly attractive to visitors. It encompasses rivers, mangroves, and streams that together create an uncommon landscape.

Covering over 302,706 hectares, the wetlands are an ecosystem where 39 species of fish, 50 species of amphibians and reptiles, 60 species of mammals, and 125 species of birds coexist.

You can start your tour at the Uyotot-Ja Interpretation Center, where exhibition halls showcase the benefits derived from the wetlands. From here, you can explore a small part of the reserve by boat.

The Nueva Esperanza ejido offers a tour that is ideal for birdwatching enthusiasts. Travel upstream on the Usumacinta River until reaching the first stop, a 6-meter observation tower where you can admire thousands of birds, especially from December to April.

Further along, you can enjoy delicious traditional food on a terrace overlooking a lagoon. The more adventurous can explore the mysteries held within the wetlands by venturing on a cayuco (traditional canoe) tour, immersing themselves in dense vegetation and traversing narrow channels rich in wildlife.

  • Observing flora and fauna
