Malpasito is in the border with the states of Chiapas and Veracruz.

This ceremonial center related with the Zoque culture, was occupied during the Late Classic between 600 and 900 A.D.

Must see Buildings

The site is strategically located on the slopes of the mountain and between two small valleys. The trace of the city was carefully planned and the buildings are distributed on the top of the hill and along the curves of the artificial terraces. The area covers 35 acres and there have been explored 53 buildings.

Among its structures are: the ball game, the large square and a sunken courtyard. There are also 60 rock engravings with representations of human figures, animals and geometric designs, as well as symbolic representations related to fertility and hunting rites.

Location

It can be reached from the city of Villahermosa, taking federal highway 180 to the city of Cárdenas. Then take the deviation to Huimanguillo by federal highway 187, along this same road that goes to Malpaso, Chiapas, travel for 27 km to get to the junction with a dirt road that leads to the town of Malpasito, and the archaeological zone is just 1 km from the town.
