To date, the origin of its ancient inhabitants is unknown.

Its name is due to its location, since it is located near this town.

The archaeological site was occupied between the years 300 a. C. and 600 d. C. and is considered a fortress with Olmec influence.

Must see Buildings

It has nine pyramidal bases with heights of approximately 2.5 to 9 meters, some of them in the ceremonial area and some others are scatered around the main plaza, many of them built on the banks of the canyons.

The structures called Mound A and “Talud Este” are the more prominent, with a stairway and five volcanic stone steps very well preserved.
