The site has more than 20 mounds that were built between 1,000 and 1,200 A.D.
The structure was founded on a hill about 30 meters high at the banks of Laguna El Chairel in the urban area of Tampico.
This is an ancient Huasteca city inhabited between 600 and 1,200 A.D. This town had political and religious control over the fishing villages located on the banks of the lagoons of Chila, Tancol and El Chairel.
The common population lived in circular, palm houses and their diet was based on fish, molluscs, wild fruits, and domestic animals. This settlement had an important agricultural activity.
Must see Buildings
Today only the pyramid of La Flores has remained, a circular structure built in levels, one platform on top of the other. The shape is very different from the one normally found along the Gulf of Mexico, is 6 meters height with a diameter of 36 meters. The core of the pyramid is made of sand, shells, pottery and sand.
