The name means "Next to the Snail".

The earliest occupation of the site dates from the period known as Late Classic, between 600 and 800 A.D.

Must see Buildings

The buildings of this archeological site are characterized by harmoniously combining light and dark sectors in their facades.

The most notorious are: the Palace and Structure I consisting of two levels where you can see a frieze with geometric motifs. This structure is linked to Structure II by a stairway that is now buried. In this construction you can see a cornice decorated with small columns.

The sculptures that decorated the frieze of the Palace can be seen in the archeology museums of Campeche.
