This site was unter the Tarascan hegemony, at least 300 years before the arrival of the Spaniards.
The construction of this ceremonial center is estimated towards year 1200 A.D.; the site reaches its heyday during the period known as Late Postclassic, and most of the visible constructions are from that period of time, although there are substructures and materials that correspond to earlier time.
Must see Buildings
The explored part seems to indicate that the site was an administrative and religious center built on a gentle hill slope. There are sunken patios, as well contructions of mixed plant (rectangular and circular), a clear indication of a type of construction known as “yacata”. The most notorious structures are: the sunken plaza, Mound 1 and 2 in the Temple and the "tomb patio", one key element in the constructions is the white and pink stone.
The remains of nearly a hundred individuals have been found on the site. The tomb 3, is one of the most superficial burials of thre site and a “crista” tomb (burial consisting of four side slabs and a fifth that serves as a cover), here there were found several ceramic objects that date back to the oldest tradition before the Tarascans.
