This city was the largest and most important in the area of Chetumal Bay.

It emerged and reached its heyday during the Early Classic, between 600 B.C. to the year 1100 A.D.

Must see Buildings

The ruins are grouped around two plazas, the Plaza of the Bees and the Plaza of the Columns.

In the first plaza the most notorious structure is the building IV, which preserves the remains of what could have been a sacred labyrinth.

In the second plaza, there is a pyramid and two other buildings, maybe used by the elite.

It has a site museum with some reproductions of ceramic pieces found in this place.

The ruins of a church and a chapel that were built with the arrival of the Spanish are also preserved.
