This settlement was inhabited between 400 and 1200 AD. and it has a resemblance with El Sabinito archaeological site.
It is perhaps one of the most important archaeological and paleontological sites in Tamaulipas.
The ruins are located on the high ridge of the mountain with a panoramic view.
South of the archaeological zone you can visit the Boca de Juan Capitán, a beautiful place with diverse vegetation. In rainy seasons, beautiful waterfalls are formed and the ecosystem is modified.
Must see Buildings
The site is scattered around 7 ha. and at the entrance there is a large staircase of 86 steps of limestone that leads to the settlement, composed of more than 70 circular structures of different diameters and heights, grouped around two semicircular squares.
These circular foundations served as a dwelling house or shrines and were built with limestone, without any kind of mortar, where the core is composed of earth, small stone and ceramic remains.
Most of the bases are 8 to 10 meters in diameter and their height varies from about 60 cm to more than 2 meters, some have stairs, the lower stairs are wider, giving the stairway the appearance of a fan.
It is thought that the bases were the plant of circular houses, with walls of “bajareque” (a traditional building technique used in this region) and palm roofs.
