History of Mexico
The history of the first inhabitants of what is now the territory of Mexico dates back 14,000 years, with a migration from Siberia.
Over time, great cultures such as the Olmec, Toltec, Teotihuacan, Maya, Nahuatl, Totonac, Zapotec, Mixtec, and Tarascan, among others, were established.
When the Spanish arrived, the grand Tenochtitlan, built in the middle of a lagoon, seemed like a mirage to them, with its temples, canals, causeways, palaces, and gardens.
With the conquest began evangelization and mestizaje, combining knowledge, cultures, and traditions. After 300 years of viceroyalty, a more homogeneous society emerged, with many points of convergence in terms of political, social, and religious organization.
At the beginning of the 19th century, with Independence, a new nation emerged, and a series of wars and disputes began, not only internal but also external, as some international powers took advantage of this instability.
The 20th century began with the Revolution, which aimed to incorporate the country into a more democratic regime and started a modernization process of both the productive means and society as a whole.
