It is one of the six most important settlements of the Bajío Tradition.
It is also one of the largest civic ceremonial centers in central-northern Mesoamerica.
In 300 A.D. Toltec and Chichimec cultures began the construction of one of the largest civic, commercial and ceremonial centers in central-northern Mesoamerica.
In the year 900 A.D. the settlement was abandoned, probably due to natural disasters.
Must see Buildings
This architectural complex consists of temples, plazas, monumental sunken courtyards surrounded by rooms and an interesting space called "Recinto de los Gobernantes" (Rulers' Precinct).
At the southern-most extent of the archaeological site lies a peculiar large basalt stone, that rings with a characteristic sound, previously used as a bell by the local elders to call spiritual gatherings at the site.

There is a site museum where some of the pieces that have been found in the archaeological zone are exhibited.

It is located to the east of the municipality of Abasolo, Guanajuato, approximately half an hour from Irapuato.
