Former ceremonial center nestled in the heart of the Sierra Gorda.
Must see Buildings
The archeological site has three main plazas, known as El Mirador, Santiago and La Promesa, all three are arranged in such a way that they mimic the silhouette of Cerro Alto or Tancama, a formation that frames the site and also has three declines. These formations favor that during the winter solstice, the Sun align with the top of Cerro Alto, and at the same time with the artificial hill formed by the plazas.
In the plazas Mirador and Santiago, there are several buildings such as the Mariposas de Cobre (Copper Butterflies), the highest in the place with 7.5 m, the Muertos (Dead), the Culebra Azul (Blue Snake), the Patojo, the Mantarraya (Stingray), the Huasteco, of the Anzuelos (Hooks), the Callejón (Alley) and the Cuchillo de Obsidiana (Obsidian Knife); the names of each building are because of the objects found during the excavations or because the architectural characteristics.
