Its architecture cannot be compared with other places in Mesoamerica.
It is said that this site was built specifically as a fortress for its strategic situation was almost impregnable.
It was a fortified place with walls of 3 to 5 meters high and 2 meters thick.

Among the most importat buildings in the site are:
Guiengola
Tomb No. 1
It is located in courtyard 12 of the Guiengola Palace, a luxurious place that represents the administrative center of the Zapotec fortress. The tomb was built under a small temple, and was probably owned by Cocijoeza, the legendary pre-Hispanic Oaxacan ruler.
Tomb No. 2
Because of its location, inside the palace and under a small temple, it is assumed that it was destined to be used by the ruler of the place or by his relatives.
