BEAUTIFUL QUARRY ARCHITECTURE AND CHEERFUL TAMBORA MUSIC

Its name comes from an Arabic word that means "place with abundant grasslands," and it is located in a fertile agricultural valley, framed by the natural beauty of the Sierra de Cardos.

Jerez was founded in the 16th century, and besides preserving its colonial charm, it exudes the tranquil atmosphere of a Mexican province.

In Jerez, the oldest festival in Zacatecas takes place, dating back to 1824: the Spring Fair, which starts on Holy Saturday and lasts for a week. The other important celebration occurs in September, in honor of the Virgin of Solitude, the town's patron saint.

Jerez is the birthplace of the famous "tamborazo" music, and it's the ideal place to savor the renowned "asado de bodas," made with pork loin fried and cooked in a sauce of red ancho chilies.

The climate in Jerez is temperate to cool throughout the year. However, during the summer months, temperatures can reach up to 30°C (86°F), while in winter, they can drop to nearly 0°C (32°F).

It is located only 53 km (45 minutes) from the city of Zacatecas, 66 km (one hour) from Fresnillo, 315 km (5 hours) from Guadalajara, and 171 km (2 hours and fifteen minutes) from Aguascalientes.
