WHAT TO EAT IN BAHÍA DE KINO

In Bahía de Kino you will find mainly dishes related to fish and shellfish.

There are carts that offer huge callos de hacha (scallops). The callo de hacha is opening a little bit and closes again after being hit with the knife. Everything is opened and cleaned in front of you. You will see how they dissect a mollusk to isolate the tasty parts. The locals will tell you about how they were caught and how delicious they are. In your visit you can enjoy stone oysters and delicious chocolate clams.

In Bahía Kino, seafood is served in its own shell. You can taste individual items or blend them all together into one huge mixed plate (shell). You will probably find 10 different types of spicy salsas sitting on the table for you to choose from.

Another different option, apart from seafood, are the traditional burritos, which are tacos made with flour tortillas and filled with meat with chili, egg with machaca, or with potatoes and meat, among many other options.

As for the drinks, you cannot miss trying the coconut horchata, which is an extraordinarily refreshing drink.

Coconut Horchata Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of rice cooked and drained
  • 1 cup of grated dried coconut
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • 2 cups of evaporated milk
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla essence
  • 1 liter of water
  • ice
  • cinnamon powder

Directions:

In a container, place the rice and the cinnamon stick, add 1 and a half cups of water and let it soak for at least three hours. For better results you can leave it overnight.

When the rice is hydrated you can blend it with the grated coconut, 1 tablespoon of vanilla essence, evaporated milk and sugar. You can also use condensed milk to replace the sugar.

Blend everything on high speed or until smooth.

In the recipe you can substitute the grated coconut for coconut cream and the evaporated milk for coconut milk.

After blending the ingredients, strain it to put it in a jug, press to obtain the maximum flavor.

Add a liter of water and crushed ice to taste.

When serving, you can sprinkle a little cinnamon powder.
