WHAT TO EAT IN MINERAL DE ANGANGUEO

In your visit to Angangueo you must try the mole de guajolote (turkey mole).

Other typical dishes are: tacos de carnita (tacos with slow braising various cuts of the pork in its own lard) and the exquisite barbacoa de borrego (lamb meat, combined with delicious herbs and spices). However, the most representative dish is pozole de trigo.

Mineral de Angangueo has the Municipal Market where you can taste all the regional dishes. There are several stalls that offer barbacoa, moronga (kind of blood sausage), carnitas, gorditas and delicious bread.

You can also savor its delicious ice creams and its fruit preserves made with piloncillo.

Some of the fruits of the region, such as endrina and capulin, are used to prepare rich liquors.

“Pozole de Trigo” Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 chicken breast
  • 2 kg of wheat
  • 2 onions , peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 3 green tomatoes
  • 5 chilies of your choice
  • 1 cup of chicken broth
  • 1garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 lettuce
  • 1 sprig of cilantro
  • 1 branch of thyme
  • 1 pinch of oregano
  • 1 avocado

Directions:

Put the chicken breast in a pot with boiling water and add salt to taste, garlic and onion. Once it is cooked, set aside and when it is colder, shred it.

Place the wheat in a container with enough water and cook for 40 minutes along with a cup of chicken broth.

Clean and deveined the chiles. Then fry them for 5 minutes in a pan with oil.

Blend the tomatoes, garlic and chiles.

Add this mixture to the pot where the wheat was cooked and add the shredded breast, thyme and oregano. Leave cooking for 15 to 20 minutes and adjust the seasoning.

Serve accompanied by lettuce, onion and chopped avocado.
