WHAT TO EAT IN LOS CABOS

Dining in Los Cabos is always a delightful experience.

All major hotels feature fine restaurants, and a host of elegant eating establishments offer a diverse cuisine and excellent service, with scenic views of the area. For those who prefer a more casual style, the beachside eateries and snack shacks are the place to be. These places offer top quality fresh seafood products.

 

Enjoy the fresh fish, lobster, shrimp, and abalone. And don’t forget to try the local “almejada,” the Mexican style baked clams which are slowly simmered and roasted deep in the sand over layers of hot coals and aromatic herbs.

 

Other typical dishes in Los Cabos are: chicken “Tamales Fajados” or the “Tamales de Güemes” filled with chicken or pork meat, olive oil, raisins and olives; and the smoked marlin.

 

As far as desserts are concerned, throughout the region it is easy to find: “mangate”, “guayabate” with regional fresh cheese, “chimangos”, dry mangos, biznaga sweet, pitahaya preserves, figs and fresh fruit.

 

Damiana liqueur is the drink that characterizes Baja California Sur, so you should try the margarita with a touch of damiana. Beside very good wines are produced in the north of the peninsulain Comondú and San Javier but there are also regional wines.

Fish “Ceviche” and Pitahaya Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 pitahayas
  • 1 kg sawfish or snapper
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 3 tomatoes
  • 2 cucumbers
  • 1 cup of lemon juice
  • 1 cilantro
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 serrano chile

Directions:

Chopped the tomato, cucumber, chili, onion and cilantro.

Dice the pitahayas and the fish into medium - size cubes.

Mixed with the other ingredients.

Add the lemon juice, salt and put it in the freezer.

Served the ceviche with corn tostadas or crackers.
