WHAT TO EAT IN YURIRIA
When visiting Yuriria, be sure to try the traditional “Caldo de Michi”.
This is a kind of soup made with catfish from the lagoon, carrots, chayote, pumpkin and xoconostle.
Other typical dishes are mole huilota (doves in mole), tacos de carnita (roasted pork), manitas de cerdo (pickled pigs feet), tamales de ceniza (tamal made with corn cooked with ashes and wrapped in corn fresh leaves) and barbacoa (stew made from beef).
If you want to try all the delicacies of the Magical Town, you can visit the Benito Juárez Market, where there are several places that offer typical dishes of the area such as guisados de bistec (beef stew) and tamales de vuelta en vuelta made with blue or colorado corn with peanuts and chickpeas.

“Caldo Michi” Recipe
Ingredients for 8 servings:
- 6 catfish fish
- ½ kg tomatoes
- ½ kg zucchini
- ¼ kg green beans
- ¼ kg potatoes
- ¼ kg carrots
- 1 chayote
- 2 large onions
- 2 ancho chili
- 2 cascabel peppers
- 2 tablespoons of flour
- 2 liters of broth
- thyme
- marjoram
- oil
- salt to taste
- pepper to taste
Directions:
Add the oil and then carefully add the onions and salt. Cook the onions until they are brown. Remove the onion and brown the flour in that same oil.
Grind the chiles and tomatoes and strain them. Add them to the container where you browned the flour, then add the broth.
Bring to a boil and add the chopped vegetables, as well as the marjoram and thyme. Season with salt and pepper.
When the vegetables are cooked, add the fish in pieces for five more minutes.
