WHAT TO EAT IN MIER
One of the most iconic dish in Mier is the roasted quail.
Some other typical dishes of this Magical Town are: cabrito en salsa ( roasted goat kid with sauce), Mexican-style eggs with machacado, and cortadillo (traditional beef and potato stew).
Caldillo fiscaleño occupies a special place in the gastronomy of Mier, it is made with the traditional dried meat from the north of the country and chilies from the region. This dish has that name because it was the favorite of the customs workers of the Ría Bravo.
However, perhaps the most characteristic dish of the town is the milanesas (slice of fried breaded beef).
In Tamaulipas you can also try a selection of regional tamales such as the tamal de acelgas con queso or tamale with deer, wild boar, or tamal de nalgada.
If you want to try something sweet you can enjoy the pumpkin or caramel empanadas. You can also try the varieties of breads such as semitas, pan de campo (field bread), corn bread and pan de polvorones (shortbread bread).
Another must-try in Mier is the atole in all the different flavos like pinole with rice, or with raisins.
