WHAT TO EAT IN PIEDRAS NEGRAS

The nachos occupy a prominent place in the history of Piedras Negras.

There is a story of how a waiter named Nacho improvised a dish that has become one of the best known: the Nachos, made with corn tortillas in baked triangles with yellow cheese and serrano pepper.

However, it is not the only thing you can eat in Piedras Negras, like many other destinations in the north of the country you can enjoy delicious beef cuts. It is said that Coahuila has the best meat in the country, so you cannot miss trying a rib-eye, a t-bone steak, or the typical arrachera. Of course, accompanying the meat with flour tortillas.

You can also try machacado or aporreadillo made from dehydrated meat.

Gastronomy and typical cuisine in Piedras Negras

Nachos Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 15 corn tortillas
  • 1 teaspoon of margarine or butter
  • 5 jalapeño peppers or a can of pickled jalapeño peppers
  • vegetable oil
  • ¼ yellow cheese (Cheddar, Monterey Jack or Pepper Jack)
  • 1 cup of refried beans
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Directions:

Cut the tortillas into squares or small triangles. Put the margarine in a pot and allow it melt and simmer over low heat. Add the oil.

Make sure the oil is hot enough (350 to 365 degrees) before adding a tortilla and brown on both sides until crisp. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Remove the golden tortillas from the heat and place them on a paper towel to soak up any excess grease.

Chop the chiles into small slices.

Bake the nachos on an oven-safe platero r quarter shet pans. Top them with yellow cheese. Bake until cheese is melty, 15 minutes.

Remove the tortilla chips from the heat and add the chiles.

You can accompany the nachos with refried beans or top the nachos with beef.
