WHAT TO EAT IN COATZACOALCOS
In Coatzacoalcos you can enjoy typical dishes of Veracruz cuisine.
Among the most iconic dishes are: picadas (tortillas with borders pinched upwards to hold the spicy sauce) and memelas (fried or toasted masa discs topped with various ingredients).
Being a coastal place has a wide variety of dishes that are made with fresh fish and seafood. However, there are also several places that offer very good beef cuts. In Coatzacoalcos you can savor some regional delights such as carne de Chinameca, which can be served in memelas, and the taminilla, a tamal filled with minilla that is a combination between fish and tomato.
Within drinks you can enjoy a refreshing coconut horchata water, or a popo, a pre-Hispanic drink made from cocoa.
Gastronomy and typical cuisine in Coatzacoalcos
“Carne Chinameca” Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6 pieces of beef
- olive oil to taste
- 2 tablespoons of white vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon of oregano
- 6 pieces of chile guajillo
- 50 grams of achiote in paste
- 2 cloves of garlic
- ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon powder
- salt to taste
Directions:
Fort he sauce, remove the tail of the guajillo chiles, open in half and remove the seeds and veins. Boiled them for approximately 5 minutes and put aside.
Drain the chiles and put them on the blender with a little water, cinnamon, oregano, achiote and garlic until get a thick paste seasoned to taste.
Spread the meat with the sauce on both sides and place in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Let marinate at least two hours in the refrigerator, although it is best to leave it at least 12 hours.
Fry the steaks to cook them to taste and serve them accompanied by beans, rice and tortillas.
