WHAT TO EAT IN XICO
Among the gastronomic delights of Xico is the chicken in mole.
The Xiqueño mole differs from that of other states because it is sweeter since it includes apple, chocolate, panela cheese and banana.
Also, you can try the famous Xonequi, a bean broth with dumplings, boiled with xonequi leaves, a heart-shaped vine.
Other of the dishes that characterize this beautiful Magical Town are the stuffed chipotles and the exquisite tamales canarios (small yellow tamales, made with a rice flour, butter, baking powder, sugar, yolks, raisins and milk).
This town is famous for its liqueurs, especially the typical blackberry liqueur and the herbal liqueur known as Verde de Xico.

“Xonequi” Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of black beans soaked the night before
- ½ onions
- 1 sprig of xonequi leaves, can be substituted with cilantro, hoja santa or epazote
- ¼ kg of corn dough
- oil to taste
- salt to taste
Directions:
Cook the beans with the onion. Bring to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer, covered.
Mix the corn dough with salt to taste and a little oil, forming small balls. Sink the fingertip over the center of each one.
When the beans are almost ready (with about half an hour to cook), add the balls to the pot, along with the xonequi leaves, which give it a very unique flavor.
Check that the dough balls are cooked and remove the pot from the heat.
Serve with corn tortillas and fresh chile.
