WHAT TO EAT IN COMONFORT

In Comonfort you can try the gorditas (fried masa dough pocket stuffed with a variety of fillings), the pork carnitas and the pork rinds.

The tortillas ceremoniales (ceremonial tortillas) are a very unique product of Comonfort and have an interesting history, since they are a sample of the Otomi tradition. To the naked eye they may look like tortillas, but they incorporate beautiful designs that show the history and religion of the region.

These tortillas are painted, which is part of a harvest ritual, and include illustrations alluding to animals and plants in purple, red, orange, or blue colors. The seal is made from mesquite wood and the ink is made from muicle, a colorful medicinal plant to which cochineal and other natural dyes are added.

To include the design, halfway through cooking the tortillas are removed from the griddle and the illustration is placed.

In this Magical Town you can also delight yourself with rich sweets such as charamuscas, sweet pumpkin, chilacayote, its traditional ice cream and baked fruits that are exquisite breads that when cooked give off a delicious fruity smell.
