WHAT TO EAT IN MEXICO CITY

Mexico City is a cosmopolitan city where you can find all kinds of food, both international and regional.

There is a wide variety of establishments that suit all pockets and even the most demanding palates. The city offers the cuisines of the entire country and even the cuisines of almost every country in the world.

In this city you will find semiformal restaurants, classic old-style places, authentic restaurants known as “Fondas”. But you can also visit luxurious places offering the latest food trends. At the other end, are the markets and tianguis (open air markets) where you will be able to taste authentic Mexican food.

There are some areas that offer a variety of restaurants, like Coyoacán where you can enjoy a delicious meal along with its bohemian ambience. La Condesa offers a huge range of fashionable outdoor restaurants with more sophisticated specialties. The restaurants in Polanco are more elegant and original with dishes and atmospheres that can compete with the most elegant restaurant in New York or Paris.

In the city it is easy to find several restaurants that offer dishes that combine typical Mexican ingredients such as “huitlacoche” (corn smut) and “flor de calabaza” (pumpkin flower) in sophisticated ways such as souffles or mouses. This is a trend that has been called the New Mexican Cuisine, which could be taken as an example of the variety and complexity offered by cuisine in one of the largest cities in the world.
