WHAT TO EAT IN BATOPILAS

One of the most iconic dishes in Batopilas is the maneado beans (refried beans).

Other dishes you can try in Batopilas are: potato broth with cheese, chili with cheese, chilaca slices with cheese and cream.

As in many other places in Chihuahua you can also enjoy a delicious machaca (a traditionally dried meat, usually spiced beef or pork) and the typical flour tortillas.

You must try the dulces de leche (caramelized milk, milk candy or milk jam), the specialty of the town.

As for drinks, tesgüino is the most typical of the region and is made from corn.

Potato Broth with Cheese Recipe

Ingredients:

  • ½ kilo of potatoes, peeled and cut into squares
  • ½ kilo of fresh cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of seasoning
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • ½ chopped onion
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 2 poblano chiles
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 pinches of oregano
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

Directions:

Chop the onion, tomato and potatoes into cubes. They are stewed with a little oil and boiled water is added. Add the granulated seasoning, pepper and oregano and let it cook over medium heat.

When the potatoes are cooked, add the cheese, milk, and green chile, which has to be roasted, peeled, and deveined into slices. Let it boil for another five minutes.
