WHAT TO EAT IN EL MAVIRI

This place is known for a series of restaurants located in the typical palapas where regional dishes.

You can enjoy the famous zarandeado fish, mangrove oyster cocktails, aguachiles, shrimp machaca, cooked shrimp toast, snapper chicharrones , fish quesadillas and camarones ahogados, among more than a hundred dishes that you can savor in this place.

Shrimp and sierra ceviches are also famous, as well as oysters and octopus.

Other dishes that you can savor are the “gobernador” tacos, made with shrimp, onion, poblano pepper, tomato and cheese, and the “barbones” tamales, stuffed with shrimp.

It is important to note that although most of the regional dishes are based on fish and shellfish, there are also other options with beef, chicken and vegetables.

It is currently known as a gastronomic corridor where a series of restaurants are located that offer all these delicacies in the middle of a beautiful landscape.

Oyster Ceviche Recipe

Ingredients for 8 servings:

  • 15 large oysters
  • 1 purple onion
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 2 peppers
  • 4 tablespoons chopped coriander
  • 22 lemons
  • tomato sauce to taste
  • mustard to taste
  • 3 oil tablespoons
  • salt to taste
  • ground pepper to taste

Directions:

Slice the onion and soak it in a cup of cold salted water.

Rinse the onions and strain them and then add the juice of two lemons.

Open the oysters and save the juice. Chop them into small cubes and reserve.

Finely chop the tomatoes and peppers.

Put the chopped oysters, their juices, the chopped onion, the tomato, the peppers, the lemons, coriander, oil, salt and pepper to taste and mix gently then integrate the mixture.

Marinate for a maximum of 10 minutes and serve.

Ketchup can be added to taste, just like mustard.

The ceviche is accompanied with toasts or tortilla chips.
