WHAT TO EAT IN NOMBRE DE DIOS
In Nombre de Dios you can savor jocoque with chile stripes, gorditas stuffed with various stews and grilled cheese quesadillas.
In addition, you can also enjoy some of the typical dishes of Durango such as caldillo duranguense (beef stew), asado rojo duranguense (made with pork meat, puya chili peppers, and guajillo) and Durango tamales stuffed with chile colorado, pork, chicken with olives or refried beans seasoned with garlic, cumin and oregano.
There are also several very tasty sweets such as the delicious pumpkin torrejas, crystallized biznaga sweets, chilacayote sweet and cajeta (caramel sauce).
The region produces fruit wines with different flavors such as pomegranate, walnut, apricot, peach, apple, and grape, among others, as well as mezcal that is made in the communities of La Constancia. Many of the producers invite you to learn more about the preparation of all these products.
Nombre de Dios is part of the Mezcal Route, so you will find a very good artisan mezcal. In addition, there are also very good craft beers.

Receta de Asado Rojo Duranguense
Ingredients for 10 servings:
- 1 kg of pork leg in cubes of approximately 3 cm
- ½ onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
- 4 tablespoons lard
- 5 cascabel peppers, without veins or seeds, soaked in the meat broth
- 5 ancho chiles without veins or seeds, soaked in the meat broth
- ½ roasted onion
- 4 roasted garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon of cumin powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano powder
- 4 bay leaves
- 2 cloves
- 1 stick of cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of lard
- water the necessary
- salt to taste
Directions:
Cook the meat in hot water together with the onion and garlic, add salt to taste.
Remove from the water and reserve.
Put the butter in a casserole and when it is hot, fry the meat until golden brown on all sides without burning.
Blend the chiles with the onion, garlic, cumin, oregano, bay leaf, cloves, and cinnamon until smooth. Strain and reserve.
Pour the previous sauce into the meat casserole and cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
Rectify the seasoning.
Serve and accompany with charro beans and flour tortillas.
