WHAT TO EAT IN MATAMOROS

This destination is known for its delicious snacks that you can savor in several of the well-known taco shops in Matamoros.

Among the typical things we can mention are: the fajitas tacos, tostadas, pozole (hominy with meat), flautas (food made by rolling a filling, typically shredded chicken or beef, inside a small flour or corn tortilla) and red enchiladas accompanied with potatoes and lettuce.

Beef Fajita Tacos Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of fillet
  • 1 red onion chopped into slices
  • 1 red bell pepper, deveined and cut into thin strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, deveined and cut into thin strips
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, deveined and cut into thin strips
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • half a cup of lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of cumin
  • half a spoonful of salt
  • ¼ tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 serrano or jalapeño pepper, deveined and finely chopped
  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 125 grams of Cheddar cheese, grated

Directions:

Mix the onion and pepper with the meat. Add the garlic, lemon juice, oil, vinegar, cumin, chili, salt and pepper. Let macerate in the refrigerator fully covered in a mold for at least one hour.

Preheat the grill and place the steaks for at least two minutes on each side and add the marinade juices with a spoon. Add the vegetables and fry until everything is cooked, usually around 7 minutes.

Cut the meat into small slices and put on the tortillas along with the onion and peppers and the cheese. Serve hot so the cheese can melt.
