WHAT TO EAT IN MAZUNTE
Mazunte's gastronomy is basically made up of fresh fish and seafood.
However, being part of Oaxaca, it also offers all the dishes that characterize this state, including chiles rellenos (peppers stuffed), tlayudas (an oversized corn dough tortilla smothered with asiento lard, refried beans, and quesillo string cheese), chapulines (grasshoppers), tasajo (thinly sliced grilled beef) and of course its seven moles.
Perhaps the dishes that most characterize its cuisine are seafood tamales wrapped in banana leaves and pescado de aguja (needlefish). But you can also savor their delicious shrimp cocktails and their cazuela llena de mariscos (seafood casserole).
Do not forget that in Mazunte you can also enjoy a delicious mezcal.

“Tlayudas” Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 white onion
- 1 big tomato
- 2 tlayuda tortillas
- ¼ fresh white cabbage
- 2 pieces of beef, it can be tasajo or cecina
- 2 pieces of fresh chorizo
- 1 avocado
- ½ lemon
- 100 grams of Oaxaca cheese
- lard
- 100 grams of refried beans
Directions:
Peel the onion and cut it into slices, then cut the rings in half.
Wash the cabbage, leave it soaking in water with vinegar and disinfect it. Drain it and cut it in juliana.
Refry the cooked beans, heat them and keep them on low heat until they are used.
Heat a griddle, grease it with lard or butter and cook the meat on both sides, just like the chorizo.
Brush a little lemon or lime juice across the flesh of a sliced avocado.
When the meats are cooked, remove them from the griddle. Grease the tlayuda tortillas with a little lard.
Remove the tortillas from the heat and spread the beans. Spread the onion rings, the cabbage strips, the Oaxaca cheese threads and place the pieces of meat, one in each tlayuda and its piece of chorizo.
Garnish with avocado strips and tomato slices.
Accompany with a red sauce.
