WHAT TO EAT IN CHOLULA
If you want to enjoy the typical gastronomy of Puebla you can visit the portals in Cholula.
In this iconic place, you will find a great variety of restaurants to taste the typical bean tamales, the chalupas and of course the mole poblano.
Another excellent option is the San Pedro Market where you can taste the traditional cemitas (a fresh, sesame seed-sprinkled bun filled with beef, pork, chicken and with tiny strands of shredded cheese).
However, the dishes that characterize this Magic Town are: sopa cholulteca, orejas de elefante (elephant ears) large tortillas stuffed with beans, and cecina Choluteca (made by curing cow meat).
If you want to try something more exotic, there are the cuetlas or cueclas, which are mainly served at fairs, and are made from edible butterfly larvae. They are harvested in the rainy season and have an important protein content.
Within the drinks, you can try Cacao, which is also known as the "Elixir of the Gods", combining water with chocolate, corn and sugar. A drink that you cannot miss.
