WHAT TO EAT IN CADEREYTA DE MONTES

The town is a carnivore's paradise.

In this town you will find a very good quality meat and delicious dishes such as steaks with aromatic herbs, barbecue and pork and its derivatives such as chicharrón (deep-fried pork rind ).

Another important product in local gastronomy are cacti, so you can try Nopal en su Madre, a nopal served inside a stalk and stuffed with meat or seafood. This dish is a clear heritage of the Otomi Guamichi culture.

You can also enjoy a delicious biznaga sweet and ice cream made with a wide variety of fruits.

One of the traditional drinks in Cadereyta is the Charape that is prepared with pulque, cinnamon, piloncillo, anise and cloves. Different ingredients such as barley or different fruits can be added to this drink.

 

Gastronomy and typical cuisine in Cadereyta de Montes

Plantain Charape Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of water
  • 1 stick of cinnamon of approximately 5 cm
  • 1 teaspoon anise seeds
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 piece of piloncillo
  • ½ tablespoon of allspice
  • 4 very ripe bananas mashed
  • 1 liter of pulque

Directions:

Boil the water with the cinnamon, anise, cloves, pepper and piloncillo so that the spices release their flavor and the piloncillo melts.

Strain the water and add the banana puree. Mix and add to the pulque.

Let the drink ferment for two days.
