WHAT TO EAT IN LORETO
In Loreto there's so much to choose from not only in dishes, but also in restaurants.
The cuisine of Loreto's restaurants offer a variety of tempting menus: traditional Mexican, pizza and pastas, delicious mesquite grilled steaks, quail and savory seafood from the Sea of Cortez. The decor and atmosphere are casual, the dress code for most restaurants is informal.
In Nopolo you will also find some good dinning options, the prices are a little more expensive than Loreto but the food is good. Its typical dishes are based on fish and shellfish and among the most outstanding are: abalone fillets, lobster chorizos, roasted chocolate clams, manta ray machaca and rich lobsters prepared in various ways.
An authentic seafood specialty that you should try is roasted or “Tatemada” style clams, a delicious dish made with the “chocolate” clams harvested 500 yards off shore. The clams are placed on a bed of gravel with the shell openings pointing down, more gravel it is placed on top and dry branches of chamizo are spread over the gravel; they are allowed to burn for several minutes until the clams are roasted and they are served with flour tortillas and a mustard-based sauce.
Despite having a wide variety of dishes with seafood, you can also savor delicious salads, pastas or beef cuts. Many of the restaurants offer spectacular views of the Sea of Cortez that will make you enjoy your meal even more.
