WHAT TO EAT IN IXTAPA - ZIHUATANEJO

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo offers almost 200 restaurants with diverse specialties, to suit all tastes and budgets. All dishes are prepared with the freshest and most delicious delicacies of the coast.

The people of this region have preserved the traditions and recipes have been passed down the generations offering a unique culinary experience.

In Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo you can enjoy international dishes in a luxurious restaurants overlooking the cozy bay of Zihuatanejo or savor fresh fish and seafood in one of the many beach restaurants in both destinations.

Zihuatanejo is the ideal place to try the specialties of the region like: “pescadillas” and “pescado a la talla”. However, Zihuatanejo is known for its "Fish Strips" (strips of fish marinated in lemon finely chopped with onions and peppers).

Other typical dishes are: "el aporreadillo", made with beef jerky with egg and ranchera sauce (tomato, chili, onion and garlic), " el relleno de puerco" (pork filling), fish tacos “al pastor” (marinated fish roasted on a vertical spit), the shrimp tacos and of course the famous “ceviche”.

“Tiritas de Pescado” (Fish Strips) Zihuatanejo style Recipe

Ingredients for 5 to 6 servings:

  • 500 gr green lemon
  • 1 red onion
  • 1 kg fish: jack mackerel, tuna, dorado or sailfish
  • 30 gr de serrano chile
  • crackers or corn toast

Directions:

Finely sliced the fish in small 2-inch stripes.

Finely chopped red onion and the green chile.

In a bowl mix the sliced onion, chili, lemon juice and add salt to taste.

Place this mixture in a medium size glass bowl. Add the fish stripes and marinate for at least 30 minutes.

Serve with crackers or corn toasts.
