WHAT TO EAT IN TAPACHULA

It is a very rich place in terms of agricultural and livestock resources.

Beside Tapachula is very close to the coast and is very easy to find fresh and tasty seafood

Among the typical dishes of Tapachula are: the chipilín soup with shrimp that includes corn, cream, garlic, onion and of course shrimp and chipilín leaves, a well-known plant throughout Chiapas. Salpicón de res (shredded beef salad), rice with pumpkin flower, moronga (tripe stuffed with pork blood mixed with fat, seasonings, and spices) and fish with chumul made with epazote, olive oil, banana leaf and tomato, among many others.

Other dishes that you can savor in Tapachula are pork with chipilín, mumú leaf tamale, and for those who want to try something a little more exotic, iguana tamale.

As for the desserts, you should not miss dulce de plátano (banana sweet) made with sugar, cinnamon, walnuts and butter, as well as the corn cake.

The drinks that are typical of the place are Tiste, a drink made from cocoa, annatto, sugar and cinnamon, as well as Chicha, an alcoholic drink made from fermented corn.

“Chipilín con Bolitas” Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 fresh corn
  • 1 branches of chipilin
  • 1 tomato
  • 2 slices of onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • ½ kg of corn dough

Directions:

For the balls of dough, take the dough and add a little oil and salt to taste and form the balls.
