HISTORIC CITY SURROUNDED BY NATURAL WONDERS
A historic city where the Suprema Junta Nacional Americana was established, legitimizing the Independence movement. It also played a significant role in the French Intervention in Michoacán in 1863.

Tourist Attractions in Zitácuaro
Main Square of Zitácuaro
The square was named in honor of Benito Juárez and inaugurated in 1937. Today, it serves as an important gathering place where civic events and religious celebrations for Holy Week take place.
In addition to this square, there are other beautiful small squares and gardens, as well as mansions dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.
Templo Franciscano de Coatepec de Morelos
The temple features a monolithic atrial cross, which is among the few that have been preserved in the Americas.
Iglesia de la Candelaria
It boasts an incredible altarpiece carved in wood, a prime example of viceroyal art.
Calle del Hambre (Hunger Street)
As you stroll through the city center, you'll come across a street known as "Hunger Street," a traditional spot where you can find Mexican snacks every evening and night.
Museo Casona de la Ciudad (City Mansion Museum)
Located in what was once the Maravatío-Zitácuaro and Angangueo station of the Michoacán and Pacific Railroad. It displays the coats of arms of the 13 districts of the municipality, photographs, and historical documents. It also serves as a venue for cultural activities, conferences, and guided tours, with two rooms for temporary exhibitions.
El Cerrito de la Independencia (Independence Hill)
This monument commemorates the history of Zitácuaro. Due to its height, it offers a commanding view of the entire valley. It's named after an important battle of the independence movement that took place there.
San Felipe los Alzati Archaeological Site
This site was of great importance in pre-Hispanic times because of its strategic location, which allowed for monitoring the passage of groups arriving from central Mexico.

Visit El Bosque Dam
Just 12 km away lies Bosque Dam, an ideal spot for camping and family-friendly sports and activities such as soccer, volleyball, motocross, boat rides, and jet skiing.
During Holy Week, the event 'Vive la Presa El Bosque' takes place, featuring family and cultural activities ranging from music and local cuisine to motocross and volleyball tournaments.
From Bosque Dam, you can admire the silhouette of Coyota Hill, standing at 2102 meters above sea level. At its summit rests a nearly 17-meter-tall rock, giving it a unique appearance. You can hike up to the peak via a trail, and from the highest point, enjoy a panoramic view of the Michoacán mountains.
