COLONIAL ARCHITECTURE AMONG FLORIDAS JACARANDAS
It is located on the banks of the river of the same name and is known as "the city of jacarandas."
Throughout the town, you can see beautiful squares, ancient bridges, colorful gardens, and the beautiful fountains that characterize it, such as La Pila del Zalate, Fuente de la Aguadora, and Fuente de los Peces, as well as magnificent colonial monuments.
It has its own forest, the Cuauhtémoc Forest. The place is ideal for hiking and enjoying nature. The forest is home to a Stone House, which could well be called the House of Silk, as this is where beautiful silk shawls and silk cocoon necklaces are made.
It is a town where you can relax in its beautiful portals and leafy gardens and enjoy an artistic and bohemian atmosphere.
It is the birthplace of General Lázaro Cárdenas, who was the President of the Republic.
It is located in the western part of the state of Michoacán, 238 km (3 hours 45 minutes) from Morelia, 150 km (2 hours) from Chapala, and 140 km (2 hours) from Guadalajara.

Templo del Sagrado Corazón y Capilla de Santa Anita
With a neoclassical style and an interesting mural behind the altar that shows a map of the region during the Cristero period. This building has had various functions since it was built in the mid-19th century, serving as a military barracks in the early 20th century and later as a theater and cinema.
Templo de San Francisco de Asís
The temple is an impressive construction dating back to 1523. This former Franciscan convent houses important treasures of sacred art, such as sculptures and paintings, including a Christ statue gifted by King Charles V.
In the cloister, you will find the parish offices and rectory, which house a historical archive covering the period from 1680 to 1859 and containing information about historical figures such as Anastasio Bustamante, Feliciano Béjar, and Lázaro Cárdenas del Río.
Lázaro Cárdenas Museum
Since General Lázaro Cárdenas was born in Jiquilpan, there are several places that evoke this former president, such as his birthplace and the Lázaro Cárdenas Museum, which provides a journey through the life of the illustrious Jiquilpan native.
The museum has two large rooms displaying various objects related to the life of this former president.
Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 to 14:00 hrs and 16:00 to 19:00 hrs. Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 14:00 hrs.
Feliciano Bejar House-Museum
It is a typical Jiquilpan house with furniture from the mid-20th century, where part of the renowned international sculptor and painter's work is exhibited. There is also a small display of regional craftsmanship.
"Lic. Gabino Ortiz" Library
A 19th-century building that features 10 murals by the master José Clemente Orozco.
La "Casa de Piedra" (The "Stone House")
This place is located within the Cuauhtémoc Forest and was once the vacation home of former President Lázaro Cárdenas. It stands out for its unique architecture and is now a center where beautiful silk shawls are made.
Templo de la Virgen de los Remedios
It is located in Totolán, a town situated just four kilometers east of Jiquilpan.
El Otero Archaeological Zone
This was an ancient cultural and agricultural center of great importance in the region dating back over three thousand years. Here, several platforms and other pyramidal vestiges can be found.
Santuario de los Pelícanos Borregones (Sanctuary)
